Through its award-winning programmes, Derby Museums also provides free learning activities and events for over 4,700 school pupils and 14,000 children and families each year. These figures are set to double when the new Museum of Making opens in 2021.

Derby Museums is opening the new Museum of Making this year, celebrating the area’s rich history of innovation, on what is widely regarded as the site of the world’s first modern factory at Derby Silk Mill. Located in the Derwent Valley Mills UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Museum of Making will be a contemporary space telling Derby’s 300-year history of making to inspire new creativity.

All of this work helps to raise the aspirations and skills of our young people to be the makers, artists and thinkers of the future.
